PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A house fire in Chester, Delaware County, left three women dead and one man badly hurt.
It happened around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday on Jeffrey Street, near Route 13. Firefighters found heavy smoke and hoarding conditions inside the home.
“Hoarding conditions — I mean, it’s tough to move around just in normal conditions. But when you have a fire and the house is filled with smoke and there’s zero visibility, it just makes the job 10 times harder,” said Chester Fire Commissioner John Paul Shirley.
It took about an hour and a half to get the fire under control.
Officials said firefighters rescued a man from the home. He was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
Firefighters later found the bodies of three women, whom officials confirmed were a grandmother, her daughter and granddaughter, believed to be 11 years old.
