PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Police are investigating a deadly shooting inside a North Philadelphia pizza shop that happened early Thursday. The violence may have been sparked by road rage after the victim got into a car crash with the gunman, police said.
Around midnight, the two drivers got into a minor accident near Ridge Avenue and Sharswood Street, close to Philadelphia Housing Authority headquarters, which had surveillance cameras rolling. The footage showed the accident — both drivers pulled over on Ridge Avenue and got out to talk, police said.
One of the men, a 25-year-old, then walked inside Pete's Pizza shop on Ridge Avenue, and the other man followed.
"Interior cameras show an altercation, a physical altercation, between the victim and the shooter," said Chief Inspector Scott Small. "The shooter fires one shot, possibly two shots, striking our victim in the head."
The victim was killed. The shooter ran out and got back into his dark-colored SUV. He drove away on Ridge Avenue, then possibly west on Master Street, investigators said.
The victim has not been publicly identified, but his family members have spoken with homicide detectives.
This is the second deadly shooting to happen at Pete's Pizza in a matter of months. A delivery driver was killed outside of the business in June during a robbery.
Anyone with information about this deadly shooting is asked to contact Philadelphia police.
