HORSHAM, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — What was supposed to be a celebration of a life that was cut short by gun violence 10 years ago turned into another deadly scene over the weekend.

One man was killed and another seriously injured after dozens of gunshots were fired in a Montgomery County cemetery.

Investigators said about 30 shots were fired at Whitemarsh Memorial Park at Horsham Road and Limekiln Pike in Horsham around 3 p.m. Saturday.

People had gathered for a birthday celebration at the grave of Tyreek Fairel, who was shot and killed on the Fourth of July in Norristown 10 years ago, police said.

According to the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office, “gunfire broke out within the group” of people in attendance, killing Daniel Hawkins, 29, of Philadelphia.

In the 2013 shooting, Fairel was hit while in a moving car — and Hawkins was the driver at the time. He was hit in the hand.

A 33-year-old man was seriously hurt, suffering injuries to his jaw, arm and leg. He was taken to the hospital for treatment.

The DA’s office is asking anyone with information about this shooting to submit tips to Horsham Police Department at 215-643-8284 and Montgomery County Detectives at 610-226-5553.
