Man posing as an officer zip-ties woman, robs business in Northeast Philadelphia, police say

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A brazen robbery at a Mayfair auto repair shop has police searching for a suspect who posed as a law enforcement officer.

Police said it was just after 2 p.m. Sunday at an auto-repair shop near Harbison Avenue and Levick Street, just steps away from the 15th District police station.

Investigators said the man walked in wearing a “Security Enforcement Agent” vest, dark clothing, sunglasses, blue latex gloves, and a black baseball cap with a U.S. flag on it.

According to authorities, the suspect zip-tied a 50-year-old woman inside the business and stole about $1,000 in cash before fleeing in a white Ford van.

Police describe the van as having tinted windows, no rear window, and red dashes along the midline. It also had a padlock on the rear and passenger side cargo doors.
