BROOKHAVEN, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — Fire tore through a condo unit in Brookhaven, Delaware County, early Wednesday morning. A man was rescued from the building and taken to the hospital.
Crews responded to The Summit, a condo complex tucked away on Hilltop Drive, just off Edgmont Avenue, shortly before 3 a.m. A fire broke out in a second-floor corner unit.
"Come out and just saw some smoke that actually seemed to get worse before it got better, coming from the roof of the building. And you could see, when [fire crews] had lights set up in the middle unit, it's basically charcoal black," said Marc Petry, a resident who lives in a neighboring building.
Police officers rescued a man from the burning unit, fire officials said. He was conscious when he was taken to the hospital. There were no other injuries.
It took crews about 20 minutes to get the fire under control, officials said. Three residents were displaced, and Red Cross volunteers arrived to offer assistance.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
