PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Police are investigating a deadly shooting that happened in the Fairhill neighborhood Friday morning. A man was killed when an argument between neighbors in the same building escalated.
The investigation is focused on a rowhome in the middle of Hope Street near Cambria Street.
Police said the argument occurred around 4 a.m. involving families living on the first-floor apartment and the second-floor apartments. At some point, at least two shots were fired at the bottom of the steps, and a 60-year-old man was shot in the chest. He later died at the hospital.
When cops arrived at the scene, they had a lot to sort through. Chief Inspector Scott Small said there were many people with both families.
“We know there were multiple individuals, males, females, juveniles, young adults, and teenagers when the argument and the shooting occurred,” he said.
Small said many of them were cooperating, and they were taken to the homicide unit for questioning.
Police also said they stopped a man in a car at 2nd Street and Lehigh Avenue, who left the scene. He had a gun and had been cooperating with authorities, but police have not said whether he was the shooter.
