PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A home invasion turned deadly Thursday night in Northeast Philadelphia.
Around 11:30 p.m., police responded to the Regency Townhomes on Woodhaven Road. A 33-year-old man heard knocking on his front door and opened it — then, he was shot in the head and torso.
"We're being told that this 33-year-old does live here with his family," Police Chief Inspector Scott Small told NBC10. "According to family, they heard a knock on the front door, and when this 33-year-old answered the door, that's when family heard multiple gunshots and that's when they realized the 33-year-old was shot."
At least 13 shots were fired inside and outside the apartment. Investigators believe the incident was a home invasion.
There were also young children inside the home at the time of the shooting.
Small said he's hopeful private surveillance cameras from neighbors will help capture images of any suspects.
