PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — An 88-year-old man was fatally shot in the chest while sitting inside his car in West Philadelphia, police said.

It happened around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday on North Dewey Street, near Arch Street, in the city’s Haddington neighborhood. Investigators said he was shot twice while sitting in his car and taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead about 20 minutes later.

The victim was identified as Richard Butler, a retired SEPTA bus driver and an Air Force veteran.

The victim’s son, Orlando Butler, said his father was a good man.

“It’s a sad situation. My father never bothered nobody. He’s just a retired military vet, an outstanding citizen in the community,” he told NBC10.

Police did not recover any weapons. No arrests have been made.
