Man jumps out of parked car, fatally shoots victim talking on his phone in South Philadelphia, police say

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A 50-year-old South Philadelphia man was shot and killed Wednesday afternoon as he was walking and talking on his phone.

The shooting happened just after 5:30 p.m. along Jackson Street, near 26th Street, which is not far from Smith Playground.


Authorities said Hamilton Wyche was on his cellphone when the shooter jumped out of a parked 2004 Toyota sedan and fired several times in Wyche's direction.

Wyche was shot multiple times throughout his body. He was taken to the hospital and died a short time later.

Detectives are searching for surveillance video and speaking with witnesses. Anyone with information is urged to call in tips, even if they remain anonymous.
