PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A man is dead after police say he allegedly struck and injured two Pennsylvania State Troopers while trying to evade a traffic stop in Allentown early Sunday morning.

According to our newsgathering partners at NBC10, the troopers attempted to make a traffic stop on a 1999 Ford F-150 just after midnight. The 27-year-old driver did not initially pull over, but eventually came to a stop near 29th and Lehigh streets.

The troopers then got out of their vehicle, walked up to the truck, and attempted to take the man into custody, but he hit them with his truck and drove off. The troopers were injured, but they hopped in their vehicle, and a police chase ensued.

They followed him to 12th and Vultree streets, where he crashed into a fire hydrant, a utility pole, and the Lehigh Valley Logistics Building. He was ejected from his truck, and officers rendered aid before he was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died.

Both troopers were also taken to a hospital for their injuries, but have since been released.
