NEW JERSEY (KYW Newsradio) — A South Jersey man has been sentenced to 16 years in prison for sexually assaulting a child.

Atlantic County Prosecutors say in August 2022, Marcelino Cruz, 35, of Mullica Township, had sex with a 13-year-old while he was on parole supervision. They say he also had “child sexual abuse material” on his phone.

He was handed down the 16-year sentence without parole on Tuesday, with five years for possession of child sexual assault material.

In February, he was found guilty of sexual assault, endangering the welfare of a child by sexual conduct, and possession of child sexual abuse material.

Upon release, Cruz will be required to resume parole supervision for life and register as a sex offender.
