PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The widow of Matthew Gaudreau announced the birth of their son four months after Matthew and his brother, 31-year-old NHL player Johhny Gaudreau, were struck and killed in South Jersey.

Madeline Gaudreau shared a photo of the newborn, named Tripp Mathew, on Sunday.

Matthew, 29, and Johnny Gaudreau were hit by a suspected drunk driver on Aug. 29 — the night before their sister’s wedding. They were riding bikes in Oldmans Township, New Jersey when they were hit.

The driver, later identified as 44-year-old Sean Higgins, has been charged with their deaths. He remains behind bars ahead of an arraignment scheduled for next year.

Their deaths broke hearts around the hockey world and in the South Jersey communities where both brothers made lasting impacts.

After their deaths, Johnny Gaudreau’s widow, Meredith, announced she was also pregnant with their third child.
