PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A pediatric measles case has been reported in the Lehigh Valley, St. Luke’s Health announced, calling it the first such case at the hospital network “in recent memory.”
The hospital did not say exactly where the child is from.
Dr. Jennifer Janco, chair of St. Luke’s pediatric department, made the announcement in a YouTube video on Monday.
She stressed the importance of vaccination: “The good news is we can prevent measles cases. So yes, we are seeing cases in children, but we have a very powerful prevention tool in the form of vaccination.”
Measles cases have been on the rise in Pennsylvania. The center of the outbreak is in Lancaster County, where 96 cases have been reported since April. Chester County has seen 19 cases.
