PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — It is becoming quite clear that our approach to COVID-19 going forward will be very similar to our approach to the flu: an aggressive vaccination program to protect individuals and prescription medications to attack the virus in its earliest stages.
We now know that getting a vaccine won’t prevent many cases, but the vaccine can make symptoms less aggressive. This supports the fact that early intervention with antiviral medications will add much needed protection to those at high risk.
Pharmaceutical companies have been testing oral antivirals and bringing them to market. The overall goal: Reduce the risk of hospitalization by 90% with the combination.
