PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Most of us know that aerobic exercise performed on a consistent basis is a key factor in maintaining good health. However, there is a very valuable part of an exercise program that many Americans ignore.
Aerobic exercise does not have to be painful or extreme. A brisk walk can be very healthy, and it can be added as a routine part of the day. Exercise with light resistance like free weights can be helpful.
But exercises that improve balance and stretching to improve flexibility are often overlooked. These two components of exercise become increasingly important as we get older, because they help prevent falls and musculoskeletal injuries. Something to think about as you plan your workouts.
