PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The basic facts are so well established that there is little debate: Regular exercise is beneficial, and aerobic exercise — walking for 20 minutes or more — has cardiac benefits. A new study is adding an additional feature.
Studies on the brain have found that walking in a natural environment, such as a wooded area has even greater psychological benefits than walking in an urban environment. This is particularly important for those who use exercise as a tool to reduce anxiety and stress.
It is interesting research, but it needs to be stressed that exercise is beneficial in any environment and consistency is key.
