PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The way we approach diet and exercise every day has a dramatic impact on our overall health. The movie "Groundhog Day" is a clear reminder of this fact.
Apart from a famous rodent named "Phil" in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, who may or may not see his shadow on Feb. 2, Groundhog Day is also known for Phil Conners, played by Bill Murray in the 1993 comedy, who lives the same day over and over and over again.
The movie's repetition is funny, but it also offers an important lesson in self care. Many people make New Year's resolutions. Oftentimes they are focused on diet and exercise, and typically people overreach by creating unrealistic expectations. As a result, most people fail at their resolutions by early February.
The lesson from "Groundhog Day" is that a small change that is followed consistently every day actually works better in the long run than a dramatic and unachievable "resolution."
It's those little things we do everyday that have the greatest impact on our overall health.
