PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Christmas can be a time of great celebration, but it comes with some potential health risks everyone should be aware of.

Many families take to the road on Christmas Day to visit with friends and family. It is important to remember that children should be in car seats, and the person driving the car needs to avoid the spiked eggnog.

Beyond that, there are some other concerns. Children are very excited on Christmas — maybe even a bit careless. For the young ones, parents and other adults need to be vigilant. Batteries and other small objects should be kept out of reach. And be aware: Those small parts might be  hidden under mounds of wrapping paper as toys are opened.

Has grandma and grandpa's house been childproofed? Are doors to stairways left open? Give the house a quick safety check.

Alcoholic drinks left sitting around in unattended glasses may also be reason for concern.

There is no reason not to enjoy the holiday, but don't let safety get lost in the confusion.
