PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — We have seen it repeatedly: When a politician comments on the coronavirus, it becomes major news, especially if the statements are viewed as controversial in a politically charged atmosphere.
Words matter, but political leaders don't just talk, they regularly make critical decisions about our health. And, depending on the strength of their advisers, can make excellent choices or destructive ones.
This year alone, there have been key decisions about insurance coverage and whether telehealth should become a more important tool for care. Politicans also greatly influence the supply chain, impacting the medications we can get as well as the prices.
The pandemic only reinforced the fact that policymakers can make a very personal impact.
