PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Feeling bloated or having a tight stomach is extremely common, yet the vast majority of people suffer in silence and very few think it is important enough to talk to their doctor about.

Bloating is the result of the GI tract filling up with food accumulation or gas. It can be the result of eating too much, constipation or swallowing air.

If it is a consistent issue, it can also be linked to cancer, irritable bowel or menstruation.

There are simple steps that can help, including avoiding carbonated beverages, eating slower and cutting back on foods linked to extra gas like beans.

However, if it is a consistent issue and not going away, take the time to get evaluated – it could be a warning sign of a serious health issue
