PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — According to a new study in The Journal of the American Medical Association, Type 1 diabetes increased in children and adolescents under 19 during the first two years of the pandemic.
Type 1 diabetes happens when the body does not make enough insulin to regulate blood sugar effectively. The obvious question is, why would COVID-19 infection have this impact on children and adolescents' bodies?
The authors of the study are quite open and honest when they say they are not certain and can only speculate. But, they definitely saw a relationship. The study clearly shows something that is becoming very clear: There are still many things we do not know about the virus and its impact on our bodies.
