PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The knee is an amazing joint. In order for our knees to do their job, they utilize cartilage, tendons, ligaments, muscles and bones.
Just think about the number of things that have to work correctly for our kneecap to glide as we squat or climb the stairs. The more complex the joint, the greater the chance of injury.
The best way to avoid injury is to strengthen the muscles, exercise regularly and stretch. If you have knee pain, get it evaluated. In many cases, surgery can be avoided by physical therapy and specific exercises.
