PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — During the holiday season, many families took to the highways to visit loved ones — grabbing fast food along the way.

Whether it is on a long trip or rushing the kids from soccer to basketball, many families and people who need to travel often turn to fast food drive-thrus. Fast food tends to be high in sodium, fat and sugar. Studies have shown a steady diet can impact our health.


However, you can cut down on the damage. Here are some helpful tips: Instead of soda, ask for water. You can cut down on sugar with that.

Look at the healthy options ahead of time and get a breakdown of the calories and content. Get your condiments on the side, and substitute fruit for fries.
