PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Medical disinformation is when information is intentionally distorted. Medical knowledge is always changing, and long before the internet, some people took advantage of the confusion and profited from it.
A new article in the Journal of the American Medical Association warns that with the development of artificial intelligence, the challenge is unprecedented. The article points to voice-cloning and AI-generated avatars as tools to develop deepfakes, which can mislead and manipulate.
According to the article, one solution may be to involve the Federal Trade Commission in helping to control disinformation — but this could be little more than a Band-Aid.
