Medical Report: Gather for Memorial Day, but stay careful

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — We can’t forget that Memorial Day is a time to reflect on those who have been lost in military service. And over the years the holiday has become an opportunity for families and friends to gather and enjoy the freedoms that those brave warriors have helped protect.

In the past few years, COVID-19 has dramatically affected all areas of our lives. COVID-19 has certainly made the past few Memorial Day holidays very different from most.

However, thanks to vaccines and medications to treat COVID-19 infections, this year represents an opportunity to gather once again. But please be careful. There is a strain of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, that is rapidly spreading through our community.

Remember:
—Outdoor gatherings are best.
—Do not be ashamed to wear a mask to protect yourself or others.
—If you have any symptoms, get tested, and seriously think about sitting out this year’s celebration for the benefit of others.
