PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — When we choose someone to be our personal physician, we are choosing someone who is a product of years of education and training. The foundation of a doctor is the education he or she receives.
When students choose colleges and medical schools, they often look at rankings by outside organizations — and this has an impact on where they attend.
In recent years, a growing number of medical schools are refusing to participate in the rankings because they believe the system is flawed and based more on multiple choice test scores and research dollars than other key personal characteristics of future physicians.
According to an article in the Journal of the American Medical Association, the focus needs to change as the role of the physician evolves, and this is a major step along the way.
