PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — When Christmas morning arrives and the kids have a chance to open Santa's gifts, the adults in the room should make sure that the toys are safe and the elves haven't made any mistakes.
The No. 1 rule is that toys have an age limit for a reason. This is particularly important for children who are 3 or younger. Small parts can be a major choking hazard.
The National Safety Council also stresses to be careful about button batteries or magnets. Another important point is that if the children get scooters, bicycles or other riding toys, there should be safety gear like helmets to avoid serious injury.
Finally, when opening gifts, make sure that you remove clutter as soon as possible.
