PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The U.S. Surgeon General started 2025 with an advisory stating alcohol is responsible for 100,000 cases of cancer and 20,000 preventable deaths each year.
The risk applies to seven types of cancer: Breast, colorectal, esophagus, liver, oral cavity, throat and larynx. Does this mean you should eliminate alcohol from your life?
Not consuming alcohol is ideal, but since we know that regular alcohol consumption — even moderate — can contribute to cancer, you should limit the amount of alcohol that you drink and don’t binge when you do.
