PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — There have been several studies over the years supporting the concept that there is an increase in cardiac events in people between Christmas and the week after New Year's.
Increased levels of stress and changes in diet — including an increase in alcohol — all play a role. You can dramatically decrease your odds of becoming a victim by taking several simple steps.
Try to manage your diet by avoiding excessive amounts of fatty and sugary food. Don't let the pressure of the season get to you. Limit your alcohol intake and try to find a way to keep up with your exercise.
Most importantly, pay attention to your body. If you have chest pain or other suspicious symptoms, reach out to your doctor. Common sense and moderation are critical this time of year.
