PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Cancer screenings can save lives, and using a multi-cancer screening tool could help save even more.

According to a new report in the Journal of the American Medical Association, these tests, called liquid biopsies, cost about $1,000 each but can provide valuable insight into the potential development of cancer.

However, there is a downside that scientists are examining. The blood tests could lead to even more tests on various organ systems — tests that might not be needed. This could lead to unnecessary anxiety and potential complications.

The cost of these tests is another issue. Research is ongoing.
