PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Should you wear a mask if COVID-19 numbers increase this fall? Numerous studies performed during and since the height of the pandemic say properly fitted surgical masks can significantly reduce the spread of infection.

Of course, masks will not protect you 100% of the time — that has never been the case.

Masks were once in short supply but are now easy to purchase, and many public places still offer them for free. In addition, widespread immunization and natural immunity from prior infection all can help — although, again, not 100%.

Masking is all about reducing the risk of serious infection. Hopefully, future strains will continue to be less aggressive.
