Medical Report: Tobacco use rising among middle schoolers, report finds

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — In the 20th annual State of Tobacco Control report released this week, the federal government was given a “D” for battling the use of tobacco in adolescents.

There is reason for concern. Tobacco companies have stepped up their attempts to find creative ways to entice a new generation to use their products.

According to the report, the primary concern is the proliferation of flavored tobacco distributed in e-cigarettes. More than 2 million students are smoking e-cigarettes, becoming a major issue in middle schools.

The impact of lifelong addiction includes heart disease, cancer and serious breathing issues. E-cigarettes are a growing issue and are highly addictive.
