PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Most people experience occasional headaches. We all live with them. But for some, it can be a daily issue.
The most common type of headache is a tension headache. In any year, it can be expected that four out of 10 of us will have at least one episode. They are most common when people are in their 30s.
Most people who get tension headaches have a few episodes a month, but when they occur more than 15 days in a month, they are called chronic.
Tension headaches are usually minor but annoying. They are often bilateral, meaning they present on both sides of the head — and for people who have chronic tension headaches, the pain can be bad enough to lead to missed days at work.
A full evaluation with a physician can be very helpful at finding causes as well as treatments. There are many other causes of headaches, and your doctor can help with the diagnosis as well.
