PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — According to an article in the Harvard Health Letter, there were more than 8,200 deaths associated with drivers 65 and older between 2020 and 2021, a 15% increase from the year before.

If you look at the statistics per miles driven, the rate of fatal motor vehicle accidents is the highest in those 80 and older. Many people continue to drive safely as they get older and have superior driving records.

However, there can be red flags like unexplained dents in the car, getting lost on familiar roads, concerned comments from friends and family, and an increase in traffic tickets.

A driver's license is very important as a tool for freedom, but driving an automobile is also dangerous if skills are failing.
