PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Obesity is associated with an increased risk of developing diabetes, high blood pressure and a wide variety of over health issues. Proper diet and exercise play a role in combating excess weight, but there are many other factors that contribute.
According to data from the CDC, certain states have a higher percentage of obese people than others.
West Virginia has the highest obesity rate in the country at more than 51%. It is closely followed by Alabama and Mississippi. The state with the lowest rate is Colorado at 34%.
In the greater Philadelphia region, Delaware has the 21st highest percentage of obese people, and Pennsylvania is the 29th. New Jersey has the lowest number of obese people in the group, ranking 43rd.
