PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — For many people, acne is a part of their adolescence. Treatments have improved over time, but for many people, acne can return as they get older.
The papules and pustules of acne can come back at any time, but when people start to notice what seems to be a return to the days of adolescent acne, the problem might be something else that is quite common: rosacea.
Rosacea can look like acne and occur as a result of heat, stress, UV light exposure, alcohol and bacteria.
Ten percent of the population can get rosacea, and the papules, pustules and reddening of the skin can look like acne. The good news is that there are topical creams that can help, as well as avoiding some of the things that make it worse.
