PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Most people have heard of glaucoma, but many know very little about the condition other than it is a problem with vision.
Glaucoma is actually a group of disorders in the eye associated with changes in the optic nerve, and this can lead to vision loss. People who have glaucoma in their family are at greater risk, but it also occurs more commonly in people with diabetes, sleep apnea, heart disease and people with nearsightedness.
The good news is that there are treatments available, but the bad news is that up to half of patients with glaucoma are not identified early enough.
