PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Whether you are an athlete or have never played an organized sport, the odds are extremely strong that you will experience sprains, strains or even more serious musculoskeletal injuries at some point.

Clearly, it is important to see a physician and get medical treatment if necessary, but physical therapy is often a major tool to address the issue and help you return to functioning the best you can.

Many people know about physical therapy, but another form of therapy can be extremely helpful not only after an injury but even before a problem occurs. It is called recreational therapy, and professionals in this area use everything from sports to dance to arts and crafts to help people of all ages.

In many cases, recreational therapy can be personalized to a person's interests.
