VOORHEES, N.J. (KYW Newsradio) — A Merchantville couple welcomed two new sons overnight. Although they’re twins, they don’t share the same birthday … or even the same birth year.

The twins’ due date was anticipated for late January, but parents Eve and Billy figured they wouldn’t make it that far.

Eve went into labor on Dec. 31, 2023, which is also Billy’s birthday.

“As the contractions started picking up, we’re realizing, ‘Oh man, this one is coming soon,’ and as the time continued to tick, we realized one of them is going to be born today and one of them is going to be born tomorrow, also next year,” Billy said.

Baby Ezra was born at 11:48 p.m. on New Year’s Eve, weighing in at six pounds. Ezekiel, weighing about four pounds, was born at 12:28 a.m. New Year’s morning at Virtua Voorhees, where Eve is still resting and Billy is contemplating birthdays to come.

He said each child will get their own day to celebrate …. But the celebrations don’t end there, as their oldest son's birthday is Jan. 3. He’ll be turning three this year.

“We have a marathon of birthdays to get through over those few days,” Billy said.

“So we’ll celebrate one of our son’s Dec. 31, one of our sons Jan. 1, we’ll all take a break Jan. 2, and celebrate our last birthday Jan. 3.”

Some estimates found that the odds of having twins born in two separate years are about 1 - 2,000,000.

Correction: A previous version of this story misspelled Ezekiel's name. The current story reflects that change.
