PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Merrill Reese, the voice of the Eagles, was honored by Philadelphia City Council on Thursday.
It passed a resolution from Councilmember Isaiah Thomas congratulating Reese on his 50th season as the Eagles radio play-by-play announcer.
Reese said the real honor is broadcasting to the most passionate fans in the NFL: “You get behind that microphone and your veins tingle. You get the excitement every single week. It’s great.”
He talked about the highs, like announcing the Birds’ Super Bowl victory. And, while he acknowledged that things are “tough” for the team right now, with Jalen Hurts out due to blood clots in his lungs, he said the season isn’t over yet.
“Let’s hope this week they bounce back on Monday night and beat the Dallas Cowboys.”
He closed by leading City Council in a big “Go Birds!” chant.
