PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Police in Delaware County have arrested the Uber driver they say raped a Villanova University student in her dorm room after he gave her a ride back to campus from a night out.
A criminal complaint obtained by KYW alleges the rape happened on Sept. 13, a night when the 21-year-old victim planned to go to a club in Philadelphia to celebrate her friend’s birthday.
She told police she had five drinks before catching a rideshare into the city and felt sick on the way in. Rather than go into the club, the complaint says the victim opted to call an Uber back to campus. Investigators say her friends waited until she was picked up by 26-year-old Uber Driver Mirvan Dinler just after 10 p.m.
When he dropped the victim off on campus nearly an hour later, police say Dinler followed her into her dorm in Hovnanian Hall, raped her, and forced her to perform oral sex on him.
Authorities say he then left but returned to demand extra payment from the victim. Police say he banged on her door, she cracked it open and handed him her phone. He then sent a $150 Venmo to an account under another name.
According to the complaint, a resident advisor reported to police that Dinler wanted the payment for a “mess” left in his car.
Authorities say Dinler turned himself in Friday morning. He faces charges of rape, sexual assault, indecent assault and reckless endangerment.
Dinler is currently at Delaware County prison. He has a preliminary hearing set for Oct. 10.
