NEW JERSEY (KYW Newsradio) — Missing no more. On Tuesday morning, a $180 million project involving two major South Jersey roadways was officially completed.
The I-295/Route 42 Missing Moves project has been a work in progress for three years. It’s intended to ease congestion and improve safety for motorists with the addition of two new ramps connecting I-295 northbound to Route 42 southbound and Route 42 northbound to I-295 southbound.
NJDOT spokesperson Steve Schapiro says motorists will be able to do just that without having to leave the highway to get to opposite sides — something that has been a burden for drivers for decades.
"It's something that has been discussed for decades," he said, "and with the opening of these ramps, it should ease congestion and improve safety for nearly 150,000 motorists who travel through this corridor each day."
The ramp to get from Route 42 north to I-295 south is right after the merge from Route 55. The entrance for the other ramp is on the right-hand side of I-295 heading north before merging with 76 to take you to 42 south.
Schapiro says over the next few weeks, there may be an overnight closure from time to time for some minor work as they finish up the project.
