PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — After weeks of searching, police say they have found the body of a missing North Philadelphia grandmother, connected to a homicide investigation, on a technical college campus in Delaware.
Kim Ezell, 59, was reported missing back on Jan. 5.
On Tuesday, Ezell's body was found in a truck on the Stanton campus of Delaware Technical Community College in Newark. The truck is used by campus fleet management for parts.
It's not clear what connection, if any, Ezell had to the college.
In early January, when Ezell stopped answering phone calls, members of her family went to her home at 17th Street and West Allegheny Avenue. They didn't find Ezell, but, on Jan. 5, Ezell's daughter did find the body of 78-year-old Stanley Lawton, shot in his eye. He was the landlord from whom Ezell had been renting a room. Lawton was pronounced dead at the scene.
On Jan. 12, police arrested 31-year-old Walter Heard and charged him with Lawton's murder.
Authorities said that as they looked into the case, they could not locate Ezell, 59. She was placed on a missing person's list.
According to police, someone notified the homicide unit of the discovery of her body on Tuesday.
Police have not said if they believe Heard is involved in Ezell's death. The investigation is ongoing.
