MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — Montgomery County is earmarking $12 million of federal CARES Act funding to help make childcare affordable.
The program offers help to both child care providers and to parents who are struggling to pay child care costs.
"This is for Montgomery County child care facilities that have suffered disruption due to low enrollment and it's for parents struggling to pay for childcare," Montgomery County Commissioner Val Arkoosh explained.
Arkoosh said it's for parents of kids in Montgomery County up to age 13 who are enrolled at a licensed child care provider, with certain requirements.
But she noted the earnings limits are 100% of the gross median income, which, for example, for a household of four is $96,600.
"Compared to how these programs typically operate, these are very generous income brackets, so I encourage all families to take a look at this," she said.
The other part of the program is for licensed child care providers.
The application process is open now through Nov. 2.
