PLYMOUTH MEETING, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — A Plymouth Meeting man has been charged in the death of a 7-year-old who fell out of the back of his truck last month.

On August 22, five children, ages 6-11, asked their neighbor, 48-year-old Andres Marin, to give them a ride in his 1996 Subaru Sambar. Marin let the kids climb in the back of the truck, as he’d done several times before. The sidewalls of the truck’s bed are 11.5 inches, shorter than a typical pick-up truck.

According to the criminal complaint, while the truck was moving, a 7-year-old girl was leaning over the sidewall, asking Marin to make a right turn when she fell from the bed of the truck and was run over.

Marin picked up the girl, drove to her parents’ house, then drove her and her father to the hospital, where the 7-year-old was pronounced dead. He was charged with homicide by vehicle and involuntary manslaughter.

Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele says the activity was illegal and dangerous. “[Marin] should have known it was just a matter of time,” he said, “until one of these ‘fun’ rides ended tragically.”
