NORRISTOWN, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — A Plymouth Meeting woman has been charged with second degree murder in connection with her boyfriend's death last month.

Katherine Emel, 29, is accused of setting up her boyfriend, William Carter, to be robbed and killed by putting a GPS tracker in the car he was driving.

The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office says Carter was killed on Jan. 20, just before 8 p.m. at West Wood and Powell streets in Norristown.

According to prosecutors and police, Carter was accosted by 18-year-old Damon Brantley Jr. and 29-year-old Daquan Allen of Norristown and 28-year-old Jerry Butler of Philadelphia, while an unidentified fourth man sat behind the wheel of a gray Toyota Rav-4. The men stole $3,000 from Carter, before Brantley allegedly shot him in the head, killing him.

Investigators found Carter was driving Emel’s car at the time. They say she had been in contact with the other men, telling them he had $3,000 on him after winning a gambling bet. Police say she was later seen on surveillance video accepting a $700 payment from one of the men involved with the murder.

Emel is also charged with robbery and conspiracy. She surrendered to police on Wednesday and is held at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility without bail. She will appear in court on Feb. 16 for a preliminary hearing, along with the other defendants.
