PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Some residents in Chester and Montgomery counties have received a survey in the mail that might look like it’s from their county, but officials there say the counties have nothing to do with it.
“We've heard from many Montgomery County residents that they have received a document in the mail called Montgomery County Opinion Survey that was sent by Sequoia Research LLC,’” said county Director of Communications Kelly Cofrancisco.
“We want residents to know that the county was never consulted about this survey, and that the survey is not connected with Montgomery County government.”
Some residents in Chester County called and e-mailed officials there, saying they received a similar survey in the mail.
“We really just want to let all of our residents know that we have nothing to do with this survey in Chester County government, nor is it affiliated in any way with any of our county agencies,” said county Public Information Officer Rebecca Brain.
It’s not clear who is behind the company or why they’re sending the survey.
Brain points to the Better Business Bureau, which notes the company behind the survey, Sequoia Research LLC, has sent similar letters to people in other counties in Pennsylvania and in other states.
The Better Business Bureau says the survey promises a $5 gift card in exchange for filling out follow-up surveys online, where people submit personal information that can be shared with third parties. Sequoia Research LLC is registered as a corporation in Delaware.
The bureau advises extreme caution in dealing with the survey.
“We too just want to assure residents that this has nothing to do with Chester County government,” said Brain. “We also advise extreme caution in completing this survey.”
