PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — At least five people, including a teenager, are dead after separate overnight shootings in Philadelphia.
Police say around 8:30 p.m. Friday officers responded to a call about a person with a gun near the 7100 block of Jackson Street. When they arrived at the scene they found a 38-year-old man, later identified as Thomas Dooner, suffering from multiple shot wounds to the stomach. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he died about 20 minutes later.
Police say the shooting occurred after an argument broke out between the 31-year-old suspect and Dooner’s daughter. They say the suspect threatened everyone before leaving the residence. He later returned and ran into Dooner. That’s when the 31-year-old shot Dooner multiple times then fled the scene in an SUV.
Police say the suspect was last seen heading southbound on Roosevelt Boulevard.
About two hours later a 16-year-old was shot multiple times near North 32nd Street. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was later pronounced dead. A motive is not yet known at this time.
Then, around 11:15 p.m., police say a 35-year-old and 42-year-old were shot multiple times throughout their bodies. Both were taken to a hospital. The 35-year-old died. The 42-year-old is in stable condition.
Later in the night, a little after 1 a.m., a 24-year-old woman was shot multiple times on Welsh Road. She was taken to the hospital where she died a few hours later.
Police say they arrested a 25-year-old in connection to the shooting and recovered a weapon.
A few minutes later, a 48-year-old was shot twice in the chest inside a private residence on the 4400 block of Oakmont Street. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced just before 2 a.m.
Police are investigating each shooting.
