PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Five years on, Mural Arts Philadelphia continues to elevate the work of emerging Black artists in the city through its Fellowship for Black Artists exhibition.

“This show really centers on human connection and the connection to the world around us. I want people to take that in because it’s a very human experience,” said fellowship curator Chelsea Luster.

This year’s exhibition features 15 local artists, including Ronald Washington. He created narrative paintings that share seemingly timeless stories to bring people of all ages together.

“The work is so joyful, vibrant and beautiful. Each artist is expressing themselves and the world around them. So I think this show is really a reflection that now more than ever we have to lean on each other. We need community,” Luster said.

The exhibit runs throughout Black History Month at Ubuntu Gallery on Germantown Avenue.

“I want people to walk away feeling like we have more in common than differences between us,” Luster said.
