SOUTH JERSEY (KYW Newsradio) — A Runnemede man faces murder charges in connection with the killing of his ex-girlfriend.
The Camden County Prosecutor’s Office says Christopher Blevins, 45, is currently being held by authorities in San Diego, California.
Blevins was initially charged on Jan. 3 with desecration of human remains and hindering apprehension after police say he dumped the body of 50-year-old Laura Hughes at Belleplain State Forest in Cape May County last summer. Her remains were discovered inside of a refrigerator covered by a carpet in the park on Dec. 22.
Investigators say Blevins was seen driving his pickup truck with a refrigerator in the back and then fled the country in the same truck. He ultimately turned himself in to police in Mexico City, telling them he may have killed someone during a bar fight in Runnemede.
Blevins now faces first-degree murder charges in connection with Hughes' death.
His extradition to New Jersey is pending. No court dates have been announced.
